About BWSI

Empowering high school students with cutting-edge STEM experiences through hands-on, project-based learning.

The Beaver Works Summer Institute (BWSI) is an innovative STEM program for high school students, hosted by MIT Lincoln Laboratory and MIT’s School of Engineering. BWSI offers hands-on, project-based courses that challenge students to solve real-world problems in areas like robotics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and more. Designed to inspire curiosity, teamwork, and critical thinking, BWSI provides a unique opportunity for students to engage with cutting-edge technologies and gain skills that will fuel their future studies and careers in STEM.

We have a number of separate programs for high school students that include
– Girls Who Can! virtual Saturday programs every fall
– Yes You Can! series that has an in-person course and additional virtual courses for 9th and 10th graders with no experience
– Our flagship summer program that currently has 14 different courses, both in-person at MIT, and virtual courses so no travel is needed
– We also host national challenges for Building CubeSats and Designing Assistive Technology
