Joel Grimm, a graduate with a B.S. in Optical Engineering from the University of Rochester, has been an essential part of the MIT Lincoln Laboratory since 1986. Throughout his tenure, Joel has contributed to a wide array of projects, spanning from laser radars and airborne systems to significant software development initiatives. In 2018, Joel joined the MIT Beaver Works team with the goal of enhancing collaboration between MIT and Lincoln Laboratory by introducing real-world projects for students to work on and develop innovative solutions. Beyond providing engaging projects for MIT students, MIT Beaver Works has expanded its impact by offering AI and engineering courses to middle and high school students. These courses are facilitated by a talented team of Lincoln Laboratory staff and MIT faculty, empowering the younger generation with valuable skills in these fields. Furthermore, Joel plays a vital role in the MIT Terrascope program, where he shares his expertise with MIT Freshmen, helping them explore the realms of design and engineering.
